Braves Team Wish List

Huntington Middle School

“I am an advocate for children and their unheard voices. Being a sponsor for STEM education, the goal is to reach and teach those in non-traditional scientific areas, emerging students with special needs, racial and socioeconomic backgrounds to explore and love math and science. My teaching methods rely heavily on real-life relevance of mathematical and scientific concepts. When students develop relationships not only with the teacher but to the subject, they become eager, critical, and divergent learners thinking outside the box.

My vision is to engage minority and underrepresented students with STEM education. These students will discover the simplicity and beauty of our world when we share our education in and our excitement for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. They will recognize that they too have the ability to change the world through the study of STEM subjects. They will be inspired to follow in our footsteps to become the next generation of scientists, technical innovators, engineers, and mathematicians. This grant will help to ensure that Huntington Middle School will be a STEM certified school with these resources that are requested. In addition, these items can be used for future students and community parent involvement during Science Content Nights.

Herman Melville said, “We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow men.” Teachers weave many threads through their community’s fabric. In fact, they create impacts felt far beyond the school. Teachers essentially rally community leaders, organizations, business partners, and parents to encourage stakeholders as they collaboratively build, in addition to foster responsibility and social awareness in children. Community support is vital for our title-one “at-risk” students in supporting beyond their academic achievement and success. With your help, we will not only alleviate hunger in our economically disadvantaged students, but also diminish any barriers that may affect their academic and social ability.

Everyone is publishing great educational apps for tablets, and the kids love them. We would love to get tablets for our classroom!
