Class Needs

Mt Vernon Elementary School

“My students are enthusiastic, curious, and bright second graders. They attend a Title I public school in Oregon, serving many low-income and at risk students. Over half of the students are able to obtain free or reduced priced lunch. Many of them come from homes where English is not their first language. With low funding and so many budget cuts, our classrooms can always use the support! Our standards and expectations for these students has changed as we have adopted the new Common Core State Standards. I want to be sure I can provide my students with all of the tools and resources they need to be successful with these new rigorous standards. The CCSS emphasize the importance of reading non-fiction text and citing textual evidence. We need non-fiction books to fit the various instructional levels and learning needs of students in my classroom. We also need technology, such as iPads, to help make teaching and learning more meaningful and fun! This technology would help to bring every lesson to life and it would prepare students for the future. Thank you for considering my classroom!”
