Ms. Manis

Carters Valley Elementary

“Hello my name is Shelby Manis and I am beginning my first official year as a teacher!! I am teaching in a smaller area of East Tennessee in the third grade for Science and Social Studies. To say the least I am absoluetly ecstatic to get the school year started. That being said, since it is my first year teaching my list of classroom supplies is lacking. I'm starting from almost scratch since I don't have any other teachers in the family. That's where I need some help! I want to make this year as successful for the students as possible and need some extra support to buy some general classroom supplies. Some things on my wish list for the classroom are a rug for whole group meeting, books for the classroom library, and just general organizational things. One of the main reasons why I believe having a rug for whole group space is so important is because not only are students more comfortable but it also helps build a community of learners. I want to start off each morning with a classroom meeting where students are allowed to share and brainstorm for problems. This will allow us to connect even more as a family of learners. Another big item on my wish list is just wanting to purchase books for the classroom library. In my opinion the students can never have too many books at their disposal. More options lead to more students finding something they are interested to read about which helps them in all areas of their academic success. Plus reading is a great activity to help support what they are learning in the classroom as well as a great activity to enjoy if they finish work early. Finally, I just need to purchase some organizational things to help make materials more accessible to the students and lead to a year with easier transitions. I appreciate any help I can get, starting out as a new teacher is difficult and personal money doesn't last long when you are constantly buying. Thanks for taking the time to read this as well! I will post some pictures of my classroom and update as the school year goes along,! Thank you!!!!”
