Mrs. Betts

Henry H. Kinkeade Early Childhood School

“I am the Librarian and Instructional Technology Specialist at Kinkeade Early Childhod School. We have over 700 students in our school. It is my responsibility to provide library services to the students, teachers, and parents, as well as provide technology training to classroom teachers in order to assist them with the seamless integration of technology into the pre-kindergarten curriculum.

Each Thursday evening from 3-6 the library is open for our families. Family Night @ the Library was developed three years ago when the neartest branch of the Irving Public Library was closed. I decided our families deserved to have access to a library where they can come and interact in a learning environment. The children and their parents work together on a weekly activity and then check out books together. It is a fun time for our students and their parents, which is also enjoyed by siblings (younger and older) and returning students each year.

Each spring for the past 14 years our Families Reading Together Program provides our students with books when 10 books are read and recorded on a reading log. These free books are brand new books which can be used to build a family library in the child's home. By providing these new books to the children, it is my hope to build lifelong readers and create an area in the home which will be used over and over for many years by the entire family.

My philosophy is - you only have to read on the days you eat.

My favorite quote - "I cannot live without books." - Thomas Jefferson

Thank you for your support of our program.”

Here is what we need

Your contribution will help Mrs. Betts get essential resources for students, including those below:

HIstory Books

Figures from our past come alive inside our classroom. I want to provide my students the ability to learn about our world's most important events and people through age appropriate (ages 3-6) books and materials.

General Art Supplies

Art programs are essential for students to develop their creativity, and they depend on art supplies. Your contribution will help so much!

Assistive Technology

Every child deserves wahtever they need to learn, to develop, and to succeed. Your contribution will help those students reach their greatest potential.

Critical Thinking

Critical thinking skills are a focus for our campus this school year. By providing resources which can help young children develop these essential skills, you wil be helping to build a firm foundation for the education future of our students.

Classroom Carts

These carts help us organize resources and move them from room to room.

Book Repair Materials

This ensures that my students can continue enjoying our books for years to come.

21st technology for a 21st century education, helping our students to be prepared for the future with hands-on devices and applications.
