Tesla's Titans, FIRST Robotics Team 8888 is a FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition (FRC) team based in Plainview, NY.

Adults serve as mentors to guide the student members in team management, engineering, computer programming, and essential leadership skills. The goal is to inspire students to pursue degrees in science, technology, engineering and math while teaching them gracious professionalism.

2014 FRC Game:
AERIAL ASSISTSM is played by two competing Alliances of three robots each on a flat 25’ x 54’ foot field, straddled by a truss suspended just over five feet above the floor. The objective is to score as many balls in goals as possible during a two (2)-minute and 30-second match. The more Alliances score their ball in their goals, and the more they work together to do it, the more points their Alliance receives. Read more about the game.

Here is what we need

Your contribution will help our team succeed and will fund costs such as those below:

Ibcgetattachment
FIRST Registration and Kit of Parts

Our FIRST registration fee also provides us with a very sophisticated kit of parts, which has most of the items we need to build our robot. It includes the Kickoff Kit, FIRST Choice additional items, Product Donation Vouchers, and Software Downloads.

Ibcgetattachment
Safety Equipment

Safety comes first when working with equipment. Protective eyewear and other equipment is essential.

Ibcgetattachment
Additional Robotics Parts

These robots are incredibly sophisticated, and we need to buy special parts to suit our design.

Ibcgetattachment
Tools for Building Our Robot

We need both general hardware and some specialized tools to build our robot.

Ibcgetattachment
3-D Printer

Some of our parts are custom-designed and need to be 3-D printed.

Ibcgetattachment
Rental of Work Space

We need to rent work space where our team can meet to plan and build our robot.

Ibcgetattachment
Computer Hardware and Software

We need computers and software to develop our robot. The Kit of Parts includes extensive software, but it does not cover everything we need.

Ibcgetattachment
Team Travel - Airfare

We will be flying to other cities to compete with teams from around the country.

Ibcgetattachment
Travel to Competitions by Bus

We will charter a bus to other cities to take us to events where we will compete with other teams.

Ibcgetattachment
Motels

We need to pay for accommodations when we travel to other cities for competitions and need to stay overnight.

Ibcgetattachment
Food

They say that a FIRST team member is a machine for turning pizza into a robot. A bit of food and beverages keep us going as we work long hours planning and building our robot.

Earn Referral Rewards for Our Team. Simply Invite Educators to ClassWish.org

Here is an Easy Way to Help Our FIRST Team Receive More Funding
Earn referral rewards for our team when you use this Tesla's Titans Team 8888 custom link to invite educators to create wish lists on ClassWish.org:

http://ClassWish.org/?inv=17888

Win-Win!
This is a win-win opportunity to help educators you invite, their students, and our team, all at the same time.

Four Million Opportunities to Earn Referral Rewards
Invite educators (teachers, student-teachers, administrators, librarians, coaches, school nurses, guidance counselors, etc.), as well as PTA, PTO, and booster club leaders. Invite these people from your school, from other schools in your community, or from any public, private, or parochial K-12 school in the United States.

Sending Invitations is Quick and Easy
There is sample text you can use for:

  • emails to educators and for PTA/PTO/booster club leaders
  • Facebook posts
  • Tweets

Find them all here.

Be sure to insert our team’s custom invitation URL, which appears above, in the invitations!

You can also display a banner on your website or blog and have it point at the invitation URL. See the instructions here.

How It Works
ClassWish makes it easy:

  • If educators use our team’s custom invitation link when they join ClassWish, their account will be associated with our team’s account.
  • When they get donations during the first year after joining, our team will earn referral rewards equal to 3% of those donations. (No, it does not come out of the educator’s donations; ClassWish’s vendor suppliers fund the referral rewards).
  • The rewards will be credited to our team wish list as the invited educators have ClassWish use their funds to buy supplies and equipment for them.
  • So if a teacher gets $1,000 in donations in the first year, our team earns $30. That’s pretty good for sending an email!

Be Sure to Follow Up
People typically need to see a message several times before they act on it, so be sure to check regularly if the educators you invite have created a wish list. If not, just send them a follow-up invitation (again, with our team’s custom link). Be sure to re-post invitations regularly via Facebook, Twitter, etc., too.

Inviting Other FIRST Teams
Please do invite other FIRST teams to ClassWish in the spirit of coopertition. You can find sample text for emails, Facebook, and twitter invitations to FIRST teams here.

Invitations to FIRST teams helps students, but they do not generate referral rewards. That is because ClassWish most often distributes cash to FIRST teams and does not have the chance to earn a payment from a vendor partner, as it does with donations for other educators.

Reporting
Our team leader can see accepted invitations and credited referral rewards on our Account page.

ClassWish Eligibility Requirements

ClassWish invites leaders of FIRST Robotics teams and also invites teachers, student teachers, substitute teachers, part-time after school teachers, staff developers, librarians, guidance counselors, school nurses, coaches, principals, administrators, other school employees directly serving students in an educational capacity, and officers acting on behalf of school Parent Teacher Association units recognized by the National Parent Teacher Association and on behalf of other parent teacher organizations (collectively, “Educators”) in K-12, public, magnet and charter schools, and private and parochial that are exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and that are in the 50 states or the District of Columbia (collectively, “Allowed Schools”) to create wish lists (“Wish Lists”) indicating the supplies and equipment they need for their students to excel and to submit requests (“Requests”) for ClassWish to provide particular items funded by contributions to such Wish Lists.

Funded Requests cannot be transferred to another Educator.

In order to register on ClassWish.org and create Wish Lists and Requests, you must attest to the following:

  • I confirm that I am a leader of a FIRST Robotics team or am an Educator in an Allowed School, as those terms are defined above;
  • The activities for which I intend to use any items received through ClassWish are legal and fall within the standards of my state and/or local board or department of education, and the policies of my school or, in the case of FIRST Robotics team leaders, fall within the standards of FIRST Robotics;
  • All information I provide to ClassWish is accurate, and I will promptly update the information to keep it accurate;
  • Any Requests I submit and any funding or items I receive are solely for use in my classroom and/or school, or in the case of FIRST Robotics team leaders are solely for use by my FIRST team, and any items I request through ClassWish will not be for my or anyone else’s personal use;
  • I agree that any items provided to me by ClassWish shall become and remain the property of (i) the school to which ClassWish has them delivered, and I will not take such items to another school, or (ii) in the case of a FIRST Robotics team such items provided to me by ClassWish or purchased with funds provided to me by ClassWish shall become and remain the property of the FIRST Robotics team or, if such is dissolved, shall become the property of FIRST Robotics.
  • I commit to including in my Wish Lists and Requests only items that will benefit my students’ education, including extracurricular activities, and to use any items that I receive from ClassWish only for such purposes.
  • I agree that in the event that ClassWish determines that any items I received through ClassWish are not being used in accordance with these Eligibility Requirements, I will return such items to ClassWish at my expense. In the case of FIRST teams, ClassWish may rely on the determination of FIRST Robotics in this regard.
